“Nordic Organic Food Fair has always showcased international brands, but this year we have more pavilions than ever before, including exciting exhibitors from Sri Lanka and Bulgaria. Our unique show promises to be a dynamic platform to discover local innovations, as well as the global food industry. This will help develop your offering for customers with evolving tastes. You just can’t afford to miss it!” says Event Director Melina Viking.

Inspiring food industry Insights

Additionally, the show’s free to attend seminar programme will set the stage for vital insights about food trends, trade and retail. This includes the show’s annual Big Nordic Organic Debate - an important platform for Nordic leaders to come together to discuss the future of organic (facilitated by IFOAM Organics).

The ‘Big Nordic Organic Debate’ will bring together organic leaders from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland. These experts will share their valuable insights regarding the state of organic in their respective markets and will delve into vital trends for retailers to watch.

Last year’s debate which was facilitated by IFOAM Organics Europe’s Deputy Director, Joanna Wierzbicka, featured Aura Lamminparras (CEO of Pro Luomu r); Charlotte Bladh André (CEO, Organic Sweden); Helle Borup Friberg (CEO, Organic Denmark); Eyglo Bjork Olafsdottir (Chairman, Organic Iceland); and Markus Lohne Hustad (CEO, Økologisk Norge).

“It is always both inspiring and rewarding to discuss the market development for organic food with our Nordic neighbours. Our markets look different in many ways, but we still have a lot to learn from each other. What strengthens me the most is hearing how we are all working hard to change the food system with organic as part of the solution,” says Charlotte Bladh André CEO at Organic Sweden.

Sustainable Cooking Takes Centre Stage

Årers Ekokock 2024, organised by Ekomatcentrum, returns after eight years to the Nordic Nordic Organic Food Fair. The fair is a proud sponsor of this year's competition, which highlights sustainable gastronomy, innovation and the importance of promoting a circular economy within the industry.

“Årets Ekokock represents a significant step forward for sustainable gastronomy. Here, we will celebrate incredibly skilled chefs who not only set the standard for sustainable cooking but also demonstrate the remarkable possibilities when we take a holistic and circular approach to ingredients. It’s time for sustainability to become an integral part of our culinary practices,” says Ted Wendt from Ekomatcentrum.

This year’s competition centers on the theme of circular economy, challenging finalists to showcase their ability to cook sustainably and with a focus on optimising resources. A new feature is the inclusion of game meat in the dishes, encouraging chefs to use it as a sustainable alternative, highlighting its nutritional density, lower agricultural impact, and contribution to a balanced ecosystem.

The ingredients are locally sourced (most are produced within a 250-kilometer radius) and so, for the first time, the producers providing the ingredients will be present at the show to share their stories.

The 2024 Ekomålskock competition (formerly Lilla Ekomålskampen) will also crown Sweden's best organic public snack chef. Previous winners were Malin Olsson from Närbogården's nursery school in Gävle (2022) and Ida Carlsson from Norlandia Preschools, Basilikan in Örebro (2023).

"My advice to this year's chefs is to think of a base of ingredients that you know exist, so you stand strong on it. Have fun and enjoy the competition!" says Malin Olsson (winner 2022).
